To properly maintain the upholstery in your home, you should follow these steps:
1. Vacuum regularly to remove dust and dirt. Use a soft brush attachment when vacuuming to avoid damaging the fabric.
2. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth.
3. Avoid placing wet or damp items on the upholstery to prevent staining, color transfer, or mildew.
4. Protect from direct sunlight to prevent premature fading or discoloration. While it's unreasonable to avoid all direct light, consider where you place certain upholstered items in your home or shutting curtains/blinds when out of the home to lessen the potential damage.
5. If your upholstery has removable covers, consider washing them according to the manufacturer's instructions. Note: The dryer is NOT a friend of most fabrics.
6. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning products on your upholstery, as these can damage the fabric.
7. Have fabric protector professionally applied to help prevent stains and make the upholstery easier to clean.
8. If you have pets, groom them regularly to remove excess hair that can accumulate on the upholstery (don't forget nail trims that can snag the fabric).
9. Schedule yearly professional cleanings to deep clean the fabric and remove any ingrained dirt or spots.
If you follow these steps, you can keep your upholstery looking clean and fresh. When you're ready for your annual cleaning or if you’re curious about fabric protection re-application, let us know. We are here to assist!
