Carpet Cleaning Myth: Steam cleaning causes mold or mildew to grow in carpet.

Fact: Properly cleaned carpets will not create mold or mildew. ✨

A professional steam cleaning actually makes your home HEALTHIER, rinsing out soil and other unhealthy particles that accumulate over time. This cleaning method is also the #1 type recommended by carpet manufacturers. Why the misunderstanding?

Carpet that has been submerged in water or wet for an extended time can create an environment in which unhealthy organisms can grow if not treated properly. This can most often be the case with water intrusions but also with unskilled cleaners, including those who attempt a DIY cleaning.πŸ’¦

With our cleaning process, you can expect your carpet to be mostly dry within 4-6 hours and completely dry by the next day. If you’re ready for a healthier home, let us know. We are here to help! πŸ“±

A Surprising Enemy of Your Carpet- Soap! πŸ’¦

It may sound counterintuitive that cleaning a carpet shouldn't involve soap, but it's for a good reason. Soap requires A LOT of water to rinse out, even when only a tiny amount is used. Since you can't rinse your carpeting like you can wash your hands or a dish (you should never get it that wet, and logistically it's not practical), there will always be leftover residue you can't remove if you apply soap to your carpet. Since soap attracts dirt, the affected area will get dirtier faster. For this reason, it's best to use a soap-free spotter. We use soap-free detergents specifically designed for carpet cleaning to break down dirt and soil without leaving behind residue.

How to Keep Your Upholstery Looking Good When You've Got Fur Babies in the Home 🐾

How to Keep Your Upholstery Looking Good When You've Got Fur Babies in the Home 🐾

1. Vacuum your upholstery regularly (at least once a week) to remove pet hair and dirt. Pet hair contains oil that ATTRACTS soil, so this is very important.

2. Rotate the cushions occasionally, particularly in places favored by your pet, to promote even wear.

3. Reduce the amount of dirt, and other unwanted particles tracked onto your upholstery by wiping your pet's paws when entering the home (this is especially helpful when it's muddy outside). 🐾

4. Cover the section favored by your pet with a sheet or blanket, as these can be washed frequently. You may also consider purchasing a slipcover for more protection.

5. Avoid giving your pet chew toys that are greasy (particularly those made from pork) when they have access to your upholstery, as the oil can rub off. 🐷

6. Clean regularly. Professional cleanings help to keep your upholstery looking good and smelling fresh. It's important to schedule cleanings regularly (every 6-18 months) to keep spots from turning into permanent stains. πŸ’¦

Remove tea spills from carpet

If you're a tea drinker and have carpeting in the home, chances are at some point you'll end up with some tea on your carpet. If this happens, here are a few suggestions for cleaning it up:

1. Blot as much of the spill as possible with a clean white cloth or rag. Continue to blot the area until there is no more liquid being transferred to the cloth. Note: Don't rub or scrub the spot as it could further embed the spot into the carpet.

2. Dampen the area again with a small amount of water and repeat step 1.

3. If the spot remains, try using the carpet spotter that was provided to you at the time of your last cleaning. Be sure to follow the directions on the label and spot test in an inconspicuous area first. If you don't have the spotter, let us know and we'd be happy to provide you with one.

4. If all else has failed, it is time to call in the professionals (that would be us (wink face)).

Note: Tea can cause permanent stains (it has been used as a dye) so it is important to clean up spills as soon as possible.

Carpet Care Tip: Have a designated pair of "house shoes.”

Wearing a designated pair of shoes while inside the home (slippers work great for this) is a great way to keep your carpet looking clean for a longer period of time, while maintaining a healthier living environment. This helps to keep the outdoors where it belongs and offers a better alternative to bare feet since your skin naturally releases moisture in the form of oil and sweat that can collect in your carpet and attract soil. The key to this is to avoid wearing the same shoes outdoors as that would defeat the purpose. πŸ˜‰

Will this spot come out?

One question frequently asked over the phone is "Will this spot come out?". Unfortunately that question can be impossible to answer sight unseen due to factors such as: what caused the spot, what was used to treat the spot, how the spot was treated (there could be damage to the carpet fiber if it was scrubbed), how much time has passed, etc. Substances that contain dye (for example: juices, jelly, sodas, sports drinks, etc.) can penetrate the dye sites of the carpet, causing permanent stains that cannot be removed with cleaning, while others can remove dye causing permanent color loss (like acne products or bleach). It's important to clean up spots and spills right away for the best chance of removal. If you need a little extra help, let us know. We come equipped with a wide array of products to tackle any stubborn spot!
